The medication arrived in a big syringe, a dose to big and the needle would hurt. They told us, pour the medication into a vial, and with a insulin syringe (Which can hold the correct dose and has a higher Gauge (size of the needle)). This helped the injection be less intrusive (less pain). Another trick that has helped in the past is putting EMLA cream on the injection spot well before the injection. A last trick is to put ice on the injection spot prior to the injection, which will help it hurt less.* Disclaimer: Please consult your doctor / nurse before attempting.
